STATUS

NOVICE competitor is one who has never achieved 1st, 2nd or 3rd award in any “SOLO” competition in any medium in question in the country - once achieving a 1st or 2nd award, the competitor automatically has to enter the AMATEUR solos, duet, trio and group sections.

In the event of a 3rd award, the teacher has the choice whether she/he/they feels the child will improve enough to cope with the higher status or whether she/he/they would do better remaining another year in novice.

A Merit award in a novice solo competition, does NOT change the novice competitors status and by the same rule, a novice GROUP being placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd
does NOT achieve amateur status – ONLY awards in solo sections enables the competitor to change status.

N.B. A novice solo competitor MAY enter duets / trios and groups in the HIGHER
Status section e.g. Amateur/Open.

An AMATEUR competitor is one who has achieved a 1st or 2nd award in a novice solo competition, in any medium, in ANY competition in the country. An amateur competitor may enter amateur or open duets, trios and groups but NEVER go down in status to a novice.

Once an amateur performers as an amateur, they remain as an amateur in solos. NB: Novice groups will be allowed to dance with ONE amateur dancer.

An OPEN competitor is:

  1. One who has achieved the status of championship winner, runner-up or third in any organized competition in the country during the year previous to the existing competition.

  2. A competitor who receives remuneration for his/her/their work i.e. professional and a qualified teacher in that medium must perform Open. Can perform in amateur groups but not novice.
