ABOUT US

The examining body was established in 1993 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The society’s aim is to promote a love for dance in the following art forms: Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip Hop and Irish. Exams are geared towards stage performance, musicality, the development of coordination, expression, to boost confidence and to develop discipline. Pre-grades are offered for beginners from 2 years and thereafter 10 levels of exams are available. The aim being for the students to finish by the time they reach grade 12. The teacher’s exam is broken up into a junior and senior level. In both exams, the student will be required to demonstrate all the work, with their own choice of music. In the junior teacher’s exam, there is a written thesis of the history of dance with questions on the daily running of a dance school, general anatomy and dance composition. Teachers belonging to other associations are welcome to join the society and will be recognized for their current qualifications. A panel of examiners will be available, to either go to the studio or the teacher can submit videos for national and international exams. Each student will receive a certificate, an evaluation report, exam button and be graded.
